WHAT IS CONGENITAL BREAST ASYMMETRY?
Correction of congenital breast asymmetries is one of the most demanding procedures in plastic surgery.
Predisposed breast deformities are different and vary from mild to very severe, associated with numerous chest deformities that have a functional, aesthetic and psychological impact on the patient. These deformations can be seen at any age.
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES
The psychological consequences for patients are usually big, because the first signs of deformity appear at puberty – withdrawal, avoiding any situation in which the breasts are visible, such as the beach, physical education classes, summer, lighter clothes, etc.
WHAT DOES SURGICAL TREATMENT LOOK LIKE?
A very experienced and dedicated plastic surgeon is necessary for the operation of this type of deformity.
The surgical technique usually involves the installation of carefully selected implants, transposition of natural breast tissue, removal of excess skin or tissue, repositioning and reduction of the areola, while taking care that the scars are aesthetically acceptable and minimally visible when they heal.
Since it is a complex operation, it usually takes 3 or more hours, and if there are deformations of the chest and surrounding bone tissue, it may be necessary to report the operation from several acts.
The operation is performed under general anesthesia.
The day after the operation, the patient gets up from bed and usually leaves the clinic after 2 days. Returning to school or business activities is possible after 2 weeks. During that period, a number of threads are removed.
After a well-planned and performed operation, patients usually never have asymmetry and the need for additional operations, except in the case of natural relaxation of the breasts, due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Surgery for congenital breast asymmetries has not only aesthetic but also psychological significance.
In many cases, the function of the mammary gland is preserved, which means that a large number of patients can breastfeed unhindered in the future.
Dr. Božović – Čelebić encourages patients not to feel uncomfortable to call for an examination and start the procedure. As a parent and wife, she encourages other parents to support daughters who have this type of deformity to enter the correction process as soon as breast growth and development is complete.
