Hydradenitis is a purulent inflammation of the sweat glands, most commonly in the armpits, groin, or buttocks. Inflammation is caused by various bacteria.
Symptoms: pain, difficulty moving, hardening of the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
Most often, surgical treatment is the only adequate therapy.
The operation removes the affected skin and subcutaneous tissue. For smaller areas, the operation can be done under local anesthesia, in about 30 minutes. In large and long-lasting inflammations, after the removal of the affected tissue, reconstruction is performed, when the plastic surgeon uses slices of healthy tissue as a natural material. In that case, the operation can take several hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
After surgery under local anesthesia, hospitalization is usually not required. With major procedures under general anesthesia, patients usually leave the clinic after one day.
Taking antibiotics after the operation is necessary, while the sutures are usually removed 7 to 14 days after the operation.
Return to normal activities is possible after a few days.
The appearance of the scar will depend on the scope of the procedure and the phase in which the surgical treatment was started.
