The third nipple is a rare condition that occurs men and women and affects about 2-6% of the population. So, if you have a third nipple, know that you are not alone.
HOW THE THIRD NIPPLE DEVELOPS
The third nipple develops around 4-5 weeks of development as an embryo. We don’t know what causes it, but we do know that breast tissue begins to develop from two lines along the milk line that goes from the groin to the breast. Sometimes a third nipple can develop along this line.
SURGICAL REMOVAL OF THE THIRD NIPPLE
It is a relatively quick outpatient procedure that involves minimal incision and removal of excess breast, fat and skin tissue. The entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia and can be completed in less than 1 hour.
Dr. Aleksandra uses a precise technique to leave a minimal scar. The recovery process is simple with minimal downtime. Any postoperative swelling should subside in two weeks.
